5 Signs Your Current GPO Isn't Actually Working for You

Your GPO is supposed to be one of your practice's most valuable partners. But for many independent retina practices, the reality looks very different. If any of these signs sound familiar, it may be time to rethink who's really in your corner.

1. You rarely hear from your account manager. A GPO relationship shouldn't be a one-way street. If your account manager only reaches out at contract renewal time — or you can't remember the last time you spoke — that's a problem. Your practice deserves proactive, personalized support from someone who genuinely understands retina.

2. You don't have visibility into your own data. If you can't easily access clear, real-time reporting on your contract performance, drug utilization, and purchasing activity, you're flying blind. Meaningful financial decisions require meaningful data — and your GPO should be making that easy, not difficult.

3. You feel like a small fish in a very large pond. When your GPO also serves hospital systems, retail pharmacy chains, and PBMs, independent retina practices inevitably fall to the bottom of the priority list. If you feel invisible to your current GPO, you probably are.

4. Your contracts haven't evolved with your practice. The retina therapeutics landscape is changing fast — new biologics, biosimilar entries, evolving payer policies. If your GPO isn't actively bringing you updated contract opportunities and pharmacoeconomic insights, you're likely leaving money on the table.

5. There's no innovation coming your way. A truly forward-thinking GPO should be introducing new tools, revenue opportunities, and operational solutions on a regular basis. If the relationship feels static, it's not delivering the value you deserve.

At Retina Alliance, we built everything from the ground up to solve exactly these problems. If you're ready for a GPO that actually works as hard as you do, let's talk.
